I Never Knew

I never knew how much I loved
Breathing deeply and filling my lungs with fresh air,
Until fresh air was no longer available.

I never knew how much I loved the depth, breadth and stillness of silence,
Until my ears were ringing with the madness of cities.

I never knew how much I loved
Sitting with the peaceful company of my own presence,
Until I was saturated with busyness.

I never knew how much I was in love
With Mother Nature,
Until I gulped hungrily at a gust of crisp clean air,
Listened to her harmonious, intoxicating silence.
Until I saw her in my own being,
My own breath,
My own body,
My existence- I never knew.

What Trumps Everything?

Authenticity,
Kindness,
Turning the other cheek,
Being present,
Joyful belly laughs at oneself,
Wanting nothing,
Silence,
Stillness,
Stopping,
Surrender,
Wise compassion,
Mother Nature,
Inner peace,
Knowing oneself,
Wise generosity,
Shining light in dark places,
Love,
What else?

Wild Geese- by Mary Oliver

You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
For a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves.
Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain are moving across the landscapes, over the prairies and the deep trees, the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air, are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely, the world offers itself to your imagination, calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting --over and over announcing your place in the family of things.

Hanging out

Published with Blogger-droid v2.0.6

I like hanging out with you

It's true
I do
Your shadow twirling, dancing,
Out of the blue
Into the sand,
Playful footprints and
No need for a hand...
Makes me smile.
I get to hang out with you for
This little while,
This extended forever, together.
As long as it lasts:
Playing, creating, loving, and
Dreaming so vast,
Of truth and life and humankind.
Warm body, fierce mind.
I find:
In the blaze of the day,
And the dazzling sun,
And the eve,
And the night,
And the morning to come,
There is but one
Treasured company,
One just,
One only -
That leaves me alone
But not lonely.

The Sky Speaks Volumes

To the attentive listener.
Day and night,
A deeply moving conversation
Takes flight
Between the Sky and its lovers:
The extravagant clouds set a tone
Which is felt in the heart of a bird,
And the moan,
Of an adoring human spirit
That stands
Transfixed
With an heaven-ward gaze.
Heart open wide
To the stars and the moon,
As the guide
From within
Speaks volumes
To the attentive listener.

Never give up

The path with heart;
Getting to know oneself deeply;
Unveiling enlightenment;
Dissolving self;
Compassionate guerilla warfare against ego;
What if we let go of the whole thing?

Whispers of Love (by Rumi)

Love whispers in my ear,
"Better to be a prey than a hunter.
Make yourself My fool.
Stop trying to be the sun and become a speck!
Dwell at My door and be homeless.
Don't pretend to be a candle,
Be a moth,
So that you may taste the savour of life, and know the power that's hidden in serving."

Tender

Tender is the moment
When the sun is approaching the horizon-
But has a way to go yet.
It warms my body
As I peel a mango
Biting into its sweet watery flesh.
Juice and sunlight dripping
Everywhere.
Hair dripping
After a long and lazy swim
In a crystal clear,
Turquoise sea.
Rolling about in the water
Like a contented walrus.
Basking in the low,
Long infrared
Loving light from
The sun.
Tender is this gentle moment,
Birds singing faintly,
Father chatting lightly
With his young children-
All playing in the sea.
The sun is so loving.
I love it back.
Sunlight in my mango
Dripping down my chin.
Drops of water from my hair.
Tender, tender.

Here it comes

7pm
Full orchestra of cicadas
Chirping, singing, sawing
The sun dips below
The horizon
Leaving a trail of light across the sky
A blazing orchestra of light
For all to see!

Fresh Air

I can breathe!
How fantastic:
Clear, fragrant, crisp intoxicating air fills my nostrils, head and lungs
Pulsing through veins, bright red.
Eyes clear,
Heart joyful,
Body alive-
A breathing organism!

Under Water Sky

Floating above,
In a trance of intoxication,
Love.
Drunk on salt air,
Dancing like you don't care.
Slipping into the underwaters
Eyes wide open.
Look up through the rippling ether to the liquid sun and rolling sky.
Fly
Bubbles up
Bottoms up
I'll swim up
There, down there
For-e-ver
Sea blue sky, sky blue sea
Ethereal

Faith

In ourselves-
How deep can it go?
Flow, grow, slow...
We are true diamonds,
Already cut, polished, perfect, lovely
That's everything,
Know it.

Tender Morsel

Even moreso.
Shall I eat you immediately,
Swallowing you whole?
Hardly noticing anything at all?
Or savor each protracted moment
Of your exposed, pulsing vulnerability
With a gentle, kind, loving intention?
Release the stronghold;
Let in the freshest of Earth's sweet perfume.
Sensing, tasting, feeling deeply.
It's ok,
There is no blame, no shame.
In this daring
Deep cavern of the heart,
Renewal is there.
I can taste it.

Flight

Came to me
One night
Over the deep blue sea.
The water was black:
All that shone were the stars
On back
Of the breaking waves.
Read all about it:
News breaks late at night,
As it might
Appear in a dream
Like this one.

You don't know me

Oh yes, I do.
But you don't; not through and through:
Not my deepest intention,
Not really why,
Just a quick assumption,
A fact! you cry.
But no, in fact-
Not that cause, that effect;
This cause can't affect
Your knowing me
Deeply.
Not really.
Unless-
We stop
Bleeding hearts,
And guess:
Can you hear it?
There is
One beating heart.

Making Love with the Sea

Which way is gravity?
Feverish fish-
Tossing and swirling,
Twirling
Human dervish.
Rippling layers over
Waves of rolling laughter
Orca smooth skin
Velvety liquid love
Sea: I love thee.
