Numb

How
To be opposed,
When I find myself
Bereft of the faculty to respond.
Stunned, winded, gutted,
A filleted fish,
All bones and structure ripped from me.
Now I cannot even stand up, speak up, or
Hold
That which is dearest.
I longed to protect you,
Like a vigilante child:
Looking out over the precipice of my hardened eyelids and feeling the roaring tiger within-
Ready to pounce.
One threat to my beloved,
One suggestion of a threat,
Of anything remotely harmful,
And I would go for the jugular:
Stun, wind, and gut you
If you dared.
Yet, I didn't know who you were,
Where you were.
Hoodwinked.
However,
I have not gone anywhere from this sleep.
Awakening,
I see your jugular now.
Wink
Wink.
